Landscape Construction Manager

As the Landscape Construction Manager, you will oversee installations by 6 landscaping crews throughout the greater Boston area. You will manage and develop crew leaders, ensuring that they have the technical skills, organization, and motivation needed to do excellent work.

Landscape Construction Manager will:
Manage daily field operations in accordance with company policies to ensure that crews meet stated goals through efficient use of time, man-power, equipment, and materials.
Provide hands-on training in proper installation, specifications, operation of equipment, safety, and quality standards.
Develop crew leaders’ ability to independently plan their crew’s work: daily, weekly, and over the course of a whole project.
Provide regular, productive feedback on performance, and initiate disciplinary process for field employees as needed
As necessary, adjust crew composition or perform hands-on work with crews to meet scheduling demands.
Oversee and manage field staff every morning at garage, ensuring that crews leave in a timely fashion, ready to complete their day’s goals.
Ensure customer satisfaction through quality control checks at work sites.
Enforce company safety and security policies.
Approve field staff time daily using online software and follow up on discrepancies.

Successful candidates will have:
Minimum of six years’ experience as a landscape construction crew leader.
Hoisting license, driver’s license, and good driving record.
Demonstrated ability to carry out and instruct others in correct landscape installation and maintenance practices, including, but not limited to:

  • natural stone and paver installation
  • natural and segmental walls
  • firepits and outdoor kitchens
  • low-voltage lighting
  • grading
  • water features
  • seed and sod installation
  • planting
  • hand-pruning
  • tree/rootzone protection

Ability to assess and adjust for site conditions, soils, drainage, and grade changes.
Proven skill in project planning, set-up, and mobilization.
Ability to lay out sites and construct landscape features based on landscape plans and specifications.
Time management, self-direction, flexibility, and ability to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
Supervisory and leadership skills.
Ability to exercise discretion, manage sensitive situations, and maintain confidentiality.
Clear, timely, and professional oral communication with co-workers and the public.
Strong attention to detail.

 

LANDSCAPE LABORER (Maintenance and/or Construction)

Landscape Laborers will: 

Construction Division: Install landscape plans; patios, walls, walks & driveways as well as plant material.
Maintenance Division: Maintain residential landscapes, including mowing, weeding, hand-pruning, cleaning hardscapes, etc.
Safely operate power equipment, trucks, and trailers.
Ensure customer satisfaction with job performed.
Assist crew leader in timely completion of work assigned.
Demonstrate a positive attitude toward work, customers, and crew leader.
Keep truck equipment and garage supplies organized.
Contribute ideas and opinions to assist with crew and company decision-making.
Perform work in accordance with high quality and company standards.

Successful candidates will have:

Construction Division: landscape construction experience preferred.
Maintenance Division: Prior landscape/gardening experience preferred.
Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and good driving record.
Ability to work in all weather and lift 50 lbs.
Spanish-English bilingual and prior landscaping/gardening experience preferred.

 

Landscape Construction Crew Leader

As a Construction Crew Leader, you will be responsible for developing your crew member(s) and ensuring that each project is completed according to the contract, with no go-backs, in order to reach your crew’s annual sales and profit goals.

Crew leaders will:
Safely operate power equipment, trucks, and trailers.
Install hardscape and plant materials in accordance with high quality and safety standards.
Ensure customer satisfaction with job performed.
Assist crew leader in timely completion of work assigned.
Work collaboratively and professionally with clients and co-workers.
Prepare all equipment, tools and materials needed for job site daily.  Make sure vehicles are properly stocked/loaded, and communicate needed repairs/purchases to Garage Manager.
Participate in crew and company decision-making by asking questions, staying informed, and providing ideas.

Successful candidates will have:

Minimum of three years’ experience as a landscape construction crew member.
Valid MA driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to test for hoisting license.
Ability to work in all weather, bend and twist throughout the day, and lift 40 lbs.
Comfort with appropriate use and operation of bobcat, mini-excavator, muck trucks, rototillers, and hand-tools.
Knowledge of correct landscape installation practices, including, but not limited to:

  • natural stone and paver installation
  • natural and segmental walls
  • grading
  • seed & sod installation
  • planting
  • drainage

Ability to understand a landscape plan and lay out site elements using levels and measurements.
Willingness to ask questions and give and receive constructive feedback in order to improve.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing, and (learn to) use a smartphone for time tracking.
Interest in participating in a democratically governed and worker-owned business.
