Green Heights: Smart Space, Sustainable Grace in Arlington

When the owners of this home decided to rebuild, they focused on energy efficiency throughout their home. They were happy to be connected to A Yard & A Half Landscaping by their design-build firm, Aurora Architects + Builders, as our ecological and sustainable design expertise aligned with their goals.

Multipurpose walls and stairs were built to have as low a profile as possible in a narrow space between their house and the neighbor’s yard while offering on-site drainage. We built a dry-laid retaining wall and placed large boulders (found during construction) in a bed between the house and a hazardous intersection.

Moved around the corner from its original location, a new curving full-color bluestone entry walkway is surrounded by beds of native plants and small lawn areas to create a welcoming entry to our customer’s new home.
