The Secret Garden: Unveiling Your Hidden Backyard Oasis

The homeowners wanted a space where they could drink coffee on quiet mornings, and also entertain friends and family. After completing renovations on their home, they asked landscape designer Sally Naish to create a private oasis for the family to enjoy and share.

The Hidden Oasis homeowners had also dreamed of a space where they could prepare and eat meals outside, so Sally included a custom built grill island using Pennsylvania fieldstone with a soapstone counter, that the homeowners selected. The locally sourced fire pit stone feature is created from reclaimed granite. Large boulders found on the property were used as stepping stones, guiding the way to a quaint nook in the corner of the garden. Furnished with two adirondack chairs, it’s the perfect spot for enjoying that peaceful cup of coffee and admiring their dream of a backyard. Illuminated by gold pendant lights, a generous natural stone curved stone bench has become the new garden’s focal point. The meticulously structured stonework and plantings blend seamlessly into the old, and look as if they are part of the original landscape. A Yard & A Half worked carefully to incorporate new and old, by protecting the mature trees to ensure their survival and successful integration into the new garden.

The homeowners leaned on A Yard & A Half to manage the entirety of the project from installing plants and hardscaping to carpentry, lighting, irrigation and permitting. “Steve has been so great with how he handles everything, there’s only one person we have to speak with and it just makes it so much easier,” the homeowners said while doing a weekly walk-through of the project.
